Simple ways to achieve eco-friendly homes

Eco-friendly homes can be achieved with just a few simple and affordable changes, according to TV presenter and self-described eco-warrior Philippa Forrester.

While many people may go straight for insulation or double glazing, simply using draught excluders or gathering wood for a wood burner can be a big help towards reducing energy bills, she said.

“There’s all sorts of different ways if you’re inventive, and if you’re prepared to take some time to research ways of saving energy,” added Ms Forrester.

“Even things as simple as getting up and switching off the TV at night instead of putting it on standby can help.”

Ms Forrester went on to suggest that education will be one of the most important weapons in increasing the number of eco-friendly homes in future.

According to a study by Anglian Home Improvements released this month, 44 per cent of people will be turning their heating on later this year, with 16 per cent not planning to use central heating until at least November.
