Oodle signs Facebook classifieds deal.

One of our syndication partners, Oodle, has just signed a deal with Facebook to provide the platform with classifieds listings across it’s marketplace. What does this mean for you as a lister on Zoomf ?

Simply put, it means your listings and brand will begin to get exposure on the Facebook website. Heard of Facebook? Something tells me you have. Let’s hope that Oodle is able to solve the classifieds question of how to get social media working for classifieds.

Congratulations to Duncan (the GM in the UK) and everyone at Oodle.

Will free-to-list ever replace subscriptions?

Written by Mike Carter on August 21, 2008 – 2:44 pm -

Zoomf and Globrix are free-to-list websites. They also offer ‘paying’ ad products in order to give more visibility and lead generation to estate agents. As an agent, you probably think to yourself (and we’ve been challenged about this many times) the following:

  • I don’t get it. If it’s free why would I pay? (the answer, by the way is you get more leads than a non-paying customer. Pay for performance.)
  • How are ‘free’ models ever going to compete with pay-to-list ie portals like Rightmove, Property Finder, etc
  • Will free-to-list stay in this format ?

Craig Donato, founder and CEO of Oodle has written some interesting posts on the future of free-to-list and his opinion on where it can/will go.

I recommend a read if you still have ‘internal questions’ about why free-to-list is now part of the UK property market, how will it work and where it could be going.

Finding your next home on MySpace…

Written by Mike Carter on July 29, 2008 – 10:12 am -

There’s a new place to search for property online, at least in the US anyway. Oodle are now proudly powering a new classifieds section on MySpace. The new and improved listings section is aimed to be more social than your average classifieds experience, with users being able to post listings for free that then link back to their MySpace profiles. Users can take advantage of MySpace blogs and bulletins to then promote their listings to their friends or allow other users to search for their listings naturally.

As well as the listings that MySpace users post themselves, users will have access to all the ads posted across the Oodle network, which currently gets around half a million new listings a day. At the moment, less than 1% of MySpace users actually look at the classifieds section, but with the right promotion this could be an interesting rival to the likes of Gumtree and Craigslist.
