Street Advisor for the UK? Yes please!
Written by Mike Carter on July 21, 2008 – 10:59 am -Review sites are nothing new to the internet. I’m sure we’ve all used them from time to time and find them very useful. Some of my favorites are websites like Zdnet, Trip Advisor, Trusted Places and Expansys to name but a few.
There is a basic reason we like non-biased reviews of products or services… we like to know what ‘everyone else’ thinks. Yup me too.
It’s why I’m really intrigued by this social/review website called Street Advisor. It basically is a forum to talk about your community at street level. Talk about hyper-local targeting. The idea of being about to find out what people think about the 5 block area around where you live (or are thinking of living) is just a great idea. Makes UpMyStreet look so 1998.

The challenge for them is a daunting one… content. Getting people to contribute worthwhile content is a huge task and not one that has obvious incentives to the contributor. Street Advisor would do well to start mashing-up Trusted Places, Qype and TouchLocal data in the near term to take advantage of the content they would provide. Would make the maps look at lot more ‘content rich’ as it were.
Another idea? Make widgets out of your street data so Zoomf and the 10,000 odd property websites in the UK can place ’street’ feedback data on our own sites. Street Advisor… are you listening?
