MLS walls are coming down, is the UK market listening?
The MLS (multi-listing service) in the USA is slowly bringing it’s data walls down. According to the guys over at Estately and re:PDX , the rules regarding what you can do with the property data and what is available to third parties, is changing to a more ‘open’ model.
It’s an important trend to note for the big property software providers like DezRez, Property Owl, Homeflow and Verba among others. Why? Because most of the property software providers are closed systems that do not allow any outside parties access.
The first provider to enable an API (or web service) to third party developers will see the same type of thing you see happening with the iPhone. Lots of new and innovative services around property data that only serve to enable agents with more marketing presence in the digital space.
And that is a good thing for everyone.
