Wikipedia for property becoming a reality.
A wikipedia for property, called Localism, is becoming a reality… well at least in the USA. Localism is the brain-child of the people behind Active Rain. Active Rain is the biggest social network for property professionals in the US.
From what I understand, it’s a simple concept -
“let the property professionals tell you what an area is like at a hyper-local level”
As a test, I had a look into my home state of Michigan, the Great Lake State. In Washtenaw County, you’ve got an agent Missy Caulk telling you all about the happenings in Washtenaw. On one page I’m getting information on -
- local events and things to do now (not a general what there is to do but a real-time what’s happening now)
- information on the property market
- her opinion on the schools in the area
- a real personal touch to the information
- pictures of local sun-flowers
- her reviews of local restaurants
- how the schools students perform
And all this is being done from the comfort of her PC on a weekly basis so the information is fresh and relevant.
This is online property transparency at its very best. Not only is Missy showcasing her local knowledge and giving consumers a reason to get in touch, but she’s doing it in a way that is friendly and approachable. Well done to her and well done to the Localism movement.

Wow, how nice of you to say all this. Very excited about localism, showing homes to a new buyer from N.C. that found all my Saline posts.
