Blogging is worth it! Just ask PaidContent.

Written by Mike Carter on July 16, 2008

UK media giant, Guardian Media, recently announced the acquisition of PaidContent for $30 million. PaidContent is one of the best blog/news websites in the world covering technology and business. I read it daily thanks to the beauty of RSS and my news readers. This deal highlights yet another big newspaper hedging its future on where media consumption is headed. As Om Malik points out, Guardian is hoping to “use a disruptive strategy that involves using technology to build a business that is defining the future of media.”

He’s right. People are consuming media in a completely different way to 5 years ago. People are always connected and always at a high-speed. Crackberry, 3G iPhones, RSS readers, blogs and social networks are all helping to break apart the print newspaper model of media consumption. It’s also a clear sign of where ‘technology’ can help build your own local business. Embrace ‘citizen journalism’ and it might just bear dividends. Not the $30 million type but possibly more leads than your competition down the street. You’re reading this blog aren’t you? I rest my case…..
