About the Zoomf Team

Zoomf was launched in 2006 in London, by an entrepreneurial group of internet technologists who thought that Search could transform the experience of hunting for the right home in the UK, and beyond. Their start-up company and the parent of Zoomf, is Arclight Media Technology Limited. Arclight/Zoomf is backed by Howzat Media and private investors, including the founders.

The Management Team

Rod Dowler, Founder, Managing Director


Rod has worked in fast-growing technology companies and management consultancy, before becoming a technology entrepreneur. He started as a software developer and moved on to management consultancy. He has worked for and advised a wide range of companies in the technology and financial services sectors.

Rod was a partner in KPMG for 15 years and during that time he led the KPMG European High Technology Practice, for five years, through a phase of rapid growth. He also led a number of high-profile engagements in telecommunications and satellite communications. He led the European operations of Regis McKenna, the High Tech Marketing Communications consultancy for several years, while he was with KPMG.

He is Chairman of the Industry Forum, a London-based policy dialogue forum and a Governor of a north London Comprehensive school. He is also an Executive Board Member of the Campaign for Science and Engineering (CaSE). Rod holds a BA in Physics and an MA from Oxford University.

Mike Carter, Founder, Product and Commercial Director

Mike has twelve years experience in online media, working with some of the leading organisations that established the online media industry from birth. Starting at Modem Media in 1995, the world's first digital advertising agency, he helped many brands to understand the World Wide Web and how it was transforming the business landscape. Clients included AT&T, Yahoo, Excite, Delta Airlines, General Motors and Hewlett Packard. Mike then transferred to Doubleclick, the leading digital services company for advertisers and publishers. Moving to London in 1999, Mike led the European professional services team which was part of the company's largest and most profitable division (2001 revenue of $45 million).

With the success of search as an advertising medium, Mike went on to a hot start-up, MIVA (NASDAQ: MIVA) to help develop the local, mobile and paid search programs within, what soon became, the largest independent pay-per-click network in Europe. Mike has also held consulting roles within the industry working for AskJeeves, WhereOnEarth, TouchLocal, Deal Group Media and others. Mike holds a BA in Mathematics from the University of Michigan.

Dave Romano-Critchley, Founder, Technology Director

David is an experienced senior information technologist with a record of managing the development of technically challenging applications. He has worked at University College London, the high tech investment bank D.E. Shaw Securities and was CTO of Thinkingcap Technology, a research-based software house that developed and open sourced an ambitious, model-driven application server. He has a proven capability to manage onshore and offshore technical teams.

At Thinkingcap Technology, he managed the design, implementation and deployment of an advanced search engine application that extracts products and corresponding deep URLs from websites. This was developed for the leading paid-search company Espotting (now MIVA). He has since served as the technical architect of a sponsored link platform for Seekport, the European search engine, and has designed and implemented a pilot for an advanced pay-per-click bid management system.

David is a practical and innovative computer scientist. He enjoys the challenge of taking best of breed solutions from open source Java, Linux and proprietary arenas and using them to provide robust, cost-effective applications. David holds a number of degrees in Physics and Computer Science and gained his Doctorate in Computer Science from London University.

Chris Cussons, Finance Director

Chris has worked with large companies and multi-nationals, both in the U.K. and abroad, since qualifying as a Chartered Accountant. He returned to the U.K. in 1980 and has worked in the VC 'industry' and as an independent consultant, being involved with a number of SMEs, as a director and as a shareholder, in a range of industries and sectors. Chris has successfully negotiated and arranged funding for start-up and growth companies and has acted as Financial Director for a number of them. From 2000, Chris was the FD of software start-up, Thinkingcap Technology.

Chris is the part-time Finance Director responsible for fundraising and setting up the financial and commercial operating systems of the Company. Chris provides the sound financial disciplines and commercial realism needed to successfully control a high rate of growth.

Non-executives

Hugo Burge, Non-executive Director

Hugo is a Non-executive Director representing investors, Howzat Media. He is Vice-Chairman & Head of International, Cheapflights Limited, having joined the company in March 2000 as an investor and executive. In 2006 Hugo founded a sister company to Cheapflights, HOWZAT Media LLP, a company that invests in Internet start-ups and projects, of which AMT / Zoomf.com is one.

Hugo founded Cheapflights.com in the U.S.A. launching the website and opening an office in May 2003. Today the website has over 3 million unique users a month and sales in excess of $15m per year.

Prior to his involvement in Cheapflights, Hugo was a property entrepreneur and continues to be a Director of a handful of successful London based property Companies, a very useful added attraction for a vertical search operation in the property sector. Hugo is also a Director of TrustedPlaces.com, the Founder of hereorthere.com and on a Panel of Advisors for WAYN.com.

Apart from his talents as an entrepreneur, Hugo is a regular speaker at Internet conferences and has also provided commentary to the media, in the U.K. and abroad.

Hugo keeps closely in touch with the executive team and provides many external introductions into the property world.

Mark Hopwood, Non-executive Director

Mark is an independent, Non-Executive Director. Mark has been involved in information technology for 20 years and in the last seven years specifically in Internet technologies. He is Innovation Director and Head of Technology, Agency.com London, part of the Omnicom advertising group.

With a consultancy background in Price WaterhouseCoopers and senior management and leadership roles covering a variety of industries and sectors he brings a breadth of experience not readily found in one individual.

His knowledge of outward facing Internet operations is an invaluable source of practical and strategic advice to the Company.
